Jackie's Book

Not along ago, I was certain that I was finally fulfilling my lifetime goals.
I had just finished playing the lead in a feature, and was in talks to play a key character in a big
Hollywood film, but God had other plans for me. On October 1, 2006 I had the worst accident of
my life so far. As a result, my pancreas was fully split in half, and I ended up in the Intensive
Care Unit of a hospital battling for my life. No red carpet any time soon! My priorities changed.
The time in that hospital gave me a chance to discover my real purpose in life. My survival was
nothing less than a miracle, a blessing in disguise that I experienced in the second busiest
hospital of the United States, the USC Medical Center, a place that transformed my life
physically, mentally, and spiritually. A healing heaven, in the middle of a concrete jungle that not
only saved my life, but the lives of dozens of patients that I personally met during my lengthy
treatment, a place I now prefer to call: “MIRACLE’S HOSPITAL.”

Book "Miracle's Hospital" is yet to be released. For book proposal information contact: jackie@jackietorres.com

  • Crossing_FrontiersCrossing Frontiers
The organizers of the first Chicano Film Festival in Mexico made the film “Crossing Frontiers” written by Jackie Torres an official 2007 selection because it presents modern day issues such as undocumented immigration from a very original perspective.

  • East_LA_KingEast LA King
Almost without realizing it, Jackie became an advocate of films with Latino themes in the United States. The feature East LA King, for example, is currently used by many schools to prevent kids from joining gangs. Jackie is the co-writer of this uplifting story about a violent gang member who changes his life around while in jail and tries to avoid his son from facing the same fate.

  • The_Price_of_the_American_DreamThe Price of the American Dream
This film is currently used by many colleges to study the Latino reality in the United States, and has become the highest selling film of its production company. It all started with Jackie’s move to Los Angeles which gave her new experiences that soon introduced her to the hard life of many Latino families in the United States. She was determined to reach out to them and motivate them to keep on going when the going gets tough. With this in mind, she added the character of Laura Muñoz, a Mexican college student with big goals, to an unfinished film script originally written by Jose Ramón Nevarez. The result of this writing team was a heartwarming full-length feature that presented today’s harsh realities of many Mexican-American families in the US, and yet gave hope of a better tomorrow.

  • La_Hora_LunaticaLa Hora Lunática
In 1995 this was the only Telemundo TV show to win over its stronger competitor in Hispanic Television. It was a daily variety show produced in Los Angeles California and broadcasted nationally in the United States through Telemundo, and internationally through several channels, and it gave Jackie Torres the creative and production control she longed for to create a show the entire family could enjoy, and yet get amazing ratings.

  • Marcano…El Show
Being the first female producer/writer in the male dominated prime-time television in Puerto Rico brought Jackie many joys, but also many challenges. As she was hired, she was so determined to change the portrayal of women as sex objects on late night TV that she refused to be a model for the show (something that looked quite interesting to the executive producer back then since Jackie had an identical twin sister). Instead she asked to be given the opportunity to write and produce the show. She got her wish granted, and was soon writing the monologues, interviews, sketches, and special interest sections of the show. Her efforts paid off quick, and the show had huge audience acceptance and very high ratings, but after almost four years of non-stop work from 1990 to 1994, she decided to look for new creative venues.

  • Pequeños…Grandes Lecciones
Pequeños…Grandes Lecciones, a series of one-hour specials about kids doing heroic deeds, gave Jackie the creative freedom she was craving for. She was given the opportunity to write, direct, and produce all of the specials, and her main goal of proving that positive themes can be presented on primetime television with the audience’s acceptance, came true when the specials scored the top places in ratings.
